【Industry News】[industry news] (overseas industry news) Gartner announced top 10 strategic tech

Gartner, a science and technology research and consulting agency, announced the top ten strategic technologies and trends in 2013. The strategic technologies defined by Gartner are technologies that may have a significant impact on enterprises in the next three years, and the factors that constitute a significant impact include the possibility of bringing great changes to it technology or business, major investment requirements, and the risk of delayed adoption.

Gartner points out that strategic technologies may be existing technologies that are mature and / or applicable to a wider range of applications. It may also be emerging technologies that provide the advantages of strategic business for early adopters, or they may bring significant changes to the market in the next five years. These technologies affect the organization's long-term plans, projects and initiatives.

David cearley, vice president of Gartner, said: "we have identified ten technologies that are strategic for most enterprises, and it executives should incorporate them into the enterprise strategy planning process within the next two years. This does not mean that enterprises must adopt and invest in all the technologies proposed, but enterprises should carefully consider and decide how these technologies can meet their expected needs in the near future. "

Cerarley points out that these technologies are emerging from the convergence of community, action, cloud and information. Although these forces are innovative and destructive, a collective effort can transform business and society, disrupt old business models, and create new leaders. Thus, the nexus of forces is the foundation of the future technology platform.

The top ten strategic technology trends listed by Gartner in 2013 include:

1. Mobile device war

Gartner expects mobile phones to overtake PCs as the most commonly used Internet device in the world in 2013. In 2015, more than 80% of mobile phones sold in mature markets became smart phones, but windows phones may only account for about 20%. By 2015, tablet shipments will reach about 50% of the total laptop shipments. Windows 8 is expected to become the third largest operating system, just behind Google Android and apple IOS.

Windows 8 is a big gamble of Microsoft. The form of Windows 8 platform should be reasonably evaluated to correctly understand how it works in the real environment and how users react. Consumer orientation means that companies will not be able to force users to abandon their iPads, prevent Windows 8 from using them, or ban them from using Windows 8 devices designed for consumers. Enterprises need to support more devices of various sizes to reduce standardized PC and tablet hardware.

This means that the PC era originally dominated by windows will be replaced by the "post PC era"; at that time, windows is only one of the various operating environments that it departments need to support.

2. Mobile applications and HTML5

The market for application development tools for general consumers and enterprises is quite complex because there are more than 100 potential developers. Gartner currently divides action development tools into several categories. There will no longer be a single tool for all types of mobile applications in the next few years, so developers will need to adopt multiple tools. The six mobile architectures, including native, special, hybrid, HTML 5, message and client free, will continue to be popular in the future.

However, with the enhancement of HTML5 function, it will take a long time to transform from native application to web application. However, native applications will not disappear, but will always provide the best experience and the most advanced features. In the future, developers will also need to develop new design technologies to provide optimized touch mobile applications that can be operated in a collaborative manner on various devices.

3. Personal cloud

Personal cloud will gradually replace PC as a field for storing personal content, using services, setting personal preferences, and acting as the center of personal digital life. In daily life, people will choose to use different devices in different situations, and the personal cloud can connect to the network of personal devices of their choice.

Personal cloud represents a special service, network destination, and the combination of Internet function, which will become the center of people's computing and communication activities. Users see the personal cloud as a portable tool that can be used anytime and anywhere to meet all digital needs. In this world, there will be no single platform, specification, technology or manufacturer to dominate the market, so there is an urgent need for controllable diversity and mobile device management. The focus of the personal cloud has shifted from a client device to a cloud service that can be used by all devices.

4. Enterprise software store

Enterprises will face a more complex software store market in the future, because some businesses only provide specific devices and application types, forcing enterprises to deal with different stores at the same time, and to deal with different payment processes and license terms. Gartner expects that by 2014, many companies will provide employee mobile apps through their own software stores.

In response to the rise of enterprise software stores, the role of it will change from a centralized planner to a market manager who can provide user supervision and brokerage services, and even provide ecosystem support for application entrepreneurs.

5. Internet of things

The Internet of things is a concept that refers to how the network expands into physical objects, such as consumer devices, and the physical assets connected to the network. Internet of things technology is embedded in all kinds of mobile devices, and its core elements include embedded sensors, image recognition technology, and payment with NFC (near field communication). As a result, the word "action" will no longer only refer to the use of mobile phones or tablets. Mobile technology has begun to be embedded in many new types of devices, including containers and cars for charging.
